As you are probably aware, since 9 July 2007 there have been no more gigs promoted by North Leeds Jazz. Over the last few years we have moved from pub to pub in the area until we arrived at the Mustard Pot in Chapel Allerton on 15 January 2007. However, dependent as we were on door money paid by members of the audience the amounts collected just didn't cover the costs and we literally ran out of cash. One problem at a pub where the gig is in an open bar is that a good many people can come in, not pay and find that they can listen free. The only solutions are to have substantial and threatening bouncers or a separate room for gigs which can be run on a club basis. Unfortunately neither of these solutions were available to us!
However, nothing daunted the movers and shakers behind NLJ are still involved, hands on, with supporting all kinds of live music in the area and so, for the present, we aim to make North Leeds Jazz a focus for all the jazz-related live music going on around us. This will involve widening out our gig listings to include everything within reasonably easy reach and also to have news and reviews of what's going on. Hope you enjoy it and please, please send stuff in - what's on, reviews, opinions, chit-chat - anything more or less clean and decent!
